The Pawnshop - Sanglaan, Filipino movie

October 23rd, 2009 by Liz, President(e)

Hi,
Please don’t miss this Filipino Movie presents to the 15th Film Cinematalaya, Lyon, 2009! Showing date on Novemeber 6, at 19h30, Opera.

The Pawnshop -Sanglaan de Milo Sogueco
(Philippines, 2009, 1h35, VOSTF)

Première Internationale NAC

SYNOPSIS. While a pawnshop’s appraiser makes a bid for independence and love, its owner is in dire straits, just like the security guard and the pawnshop’s customers.

As they seek ways to repay what they “borrowed,” one question looms: “Will they redeem themselves or will they lose what they value the most?”

Sanglaan (The Pawnshop) is a reflection on financial disasters, romantic mishaps, angst and desperation. It is a peek into permanent interests and fleeting fortunes. Sanglaan is about holding on and letting go, about endings and new beginnings.

SANGLAAN looks at seemingly simple relationships and uncomplicated events happening in a very mundane institution. A religious and single-minded businesswoman with a losing proposition; afraid of old age. A timid; vulnerable girl hopelessly in love with a high school crush. A security guard whose wife has a fragile heart. A charming and mysterious seaman just passing through. And a loan shark who won’t take “no” for an answer. These are some of the characters that populate the milieu of Sanglaan, a light, funny, poignant and very Pinoy story about hope and redemption.

Here is the link of the complete synopsis of the movie.

Thanks to ate Grace for sharing this. See you there.
